AAA batteries are commonly used in small electronic devices such as TV remote controls, MP3 players, and sex toys. Devices that operate at the same voltage but require higher currents use the larger AA batteries. AA batteries have three times the capacity of AAA batteries.

However, with the increased efficiency and miniaturization of modern electronics, many products designed to use AA batteries are being replaced by models that accept AAA batteries. An AAA battery measures 44.5 mm in length and 10.5 mm in diameter. Alkaline AAA batteries weigh approximately 11.5 grams each, while lithium AAA batteries weigh around 7.6 grams, and rechargeable (Ni-MH) batteries typically weigh between 14 and 15 grams.

The nominal voltage for alkaline and lithium AAA batteries is 1.5 V, while Ni-MH or NiCd batteries are 1.2 V. The capacity of alkaline AAA batteries is typically 900 to 1,155 mAh (3,240 to 4,158 coulombs).
