AAA batteries are commonly used in small electronic devices, such as TV remotes, MP3 players and digital cameras. Devices that operate at the same voltage but require higher currents use larger AA batteries. AA batteries have three times the capacity of AAA batteries.

However, with the increased efficiency and miniaturization of modern electronics, many products designed to use AA batteries are being replaced by models that accept AAA batteries. An AAA battery measures 44.5 mm in length and 10.5 mm in diameter.

Alkaline AAA batteries weigh approximately 11.5 grams each, while lithium AAA batteries weigh approximately 7.6 grams and rechargeable (Ni-MH) batteries typically weigh between 14 and 15 grams. The nominal voltage of alkaline AAA and lithium batteries is 1.5 V, while that of Ni-MH or NiCd batteries is 1.2 V. The capacity of alkaline AAA batteries is generally 900 to 1155 mAh (3240 to 4158 coulombs).
